It was always young Markan Lockweed's dream to be a paladin, but these hopes were dashed when he learned his father was actually Lawful Evil. As he was unwilling to break off communication with his father in order to attain paladinhood (and lose his considerable family inheritance), Markan instead devoted his life to the Clerical arts, in hopes his good deeds would nonetheless affect—and be appreciated by—the world at large. Because of his father, he retains some abilities to speak and understand evil, though he has devoted his life in every way to pursuing and advancing its opposite.
